VISITING HOURS INFORMATION

Visiting hours are based on the needs of the patient, and visitors are encouraged to discuss any special visiting needs with the unit's head nurse. Whenever possible and medically appropriate, the nurse will coordinate special visiting arrangements to meet patient and family needs.

On the general wards, visiting hours are from 11:00am to 8:00pm every day unless otherwise noted. However, there are different times for some of the wards which provide care for the seriously ill.  Other specific visiting hours (Mental Health) at the Montrose Campus:

If you are unable to visit a patient personally, you may call the patient or send a card or gift.

Number of Visitors
A patient may receive no more than two visitors at a time.

Food and Beverages
Vending machines are available throughout the facility visitor/staff convenience. Visitors may not bring food or beverages to patients without authorization from unit physicians or nurses.

Cafeteria
The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) operates a visitor/staff dining area offering a wide selection of breakfast and lunch items. Closed all Federal holidays.

Retail Store

Children Under Age
Children under the age of 14 are not permitted in patient care areas at Motnrose and the age of 12 at Castle Point.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.  This is for the protection of children.

In extreme circumstances, children under 12 may visit with the permission of the physician and the charge nurse. An adult must accompany children at all times.

Clergy
Members of the clergy are welcome to visit patients who are members of their particular religious group at any time at the discretion of the unit physicians or nurses.

Exceptions
For the health and well-being of a patient, the attending physician may limit, restrict or deny visitation. We apologize for any inconvenience when this occurs, and appreciate your understanding that it may be medically necessary.

Locations
We serve veterans from the Hudson Valley of New York. In addition to our main medical centers in Montrose and Castle Point, we offer a number of services to our patients in over 7 community-based outpatient clinics.

Waiting Areas
For your convenience and safety, we have special waiting areas throughout the facility. Please do not gather in the hallways or at the nurses' stations.

Security
VA Police Officers are primarily responsible for maintaining law and order, the protection of patients, visitors, employees, and for the protection of government and private property. For general police assistance or for an emergency, please dial:

Report all suspicious or criminal activity, vehicle accidents, and personal property losses to the VA Police while on the facility grounds as soon as possible. Because VA Medical Centers are federal property, all persons and bags are subject to search. In addition, no weapons, alcohol, or illegal drugs are permitted.

Lost and Found
If you have lost any personal items during your stay, tell your health care team. You can also call the Campus main number and ask for the Lost and Found Office or the Police and Security Office.
